Webflow SEO checklist: the settings that matter for Google and AI search

Is Webflow good for SEO? Yes: it publishes clean HTML, fast, with the settings Google needs in reach. What it does not do is decide what each page should say, or tell you what the AI assistants say about you. This Webflow SEO checklist goes through the settings, then the part no builder does.

Is Webflow good for SEO?

Webflow serves pages as plain HTML from its own hosting, so Google and the AI crawlers read the text without running scripts. Titles, descriptions, Open Graph tags, alt text, a sitemap, robots rules and redirects are all settings, not plugins. Against WordPress the difference is less the ranking than the upkeep: fewer plugins to keep updated, and less freedom to bolt things on.

The Webflow SEO checklist

  • Every static page: in Page settings, a title under about 60 characters and a description of 70 to 160, both written for the search the page should win.
  • Every CMS template: bind the SEO title and description to fields, so each blog post or service page gets its own instead of one shared line.
  • Sitemap: in Site settings, under SEO, let Webflow generate it, and submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • Robots: check the robots.txt in the same place. A rule copied from a template can block the AI crawlers you want.
  • Staging domain: keep the webflow.io address out of the index, so it does not compete with your own domain.
  • Redirects: when a page’s address changes, add a 301 redirect from the old one.
  • Alt text: set it on each image in the Assets panel, describing what the image shows.
  • Headings: one H1 per page, and the buyer’s question as an H2 with the answer in the first sentence under it.
  • Business details: the address and phone in the page text and in structured data, added as custom code in the head.

What no builder does for you

A builder gives you the settings. It does not tell you which searches your buyers make in your town, which pages rank for them, what those pages say that yours does not, or whether ChatGPT and Gemini name you. That is the work of a campaign.

Oftheard’s free AI SEO audit reads a Webflow site like any other and lists what fails. A campaign drafts a page for each tracked search from facts you confirm; on Webflow the approved page is copied into the Designer or a CMS item by hand, since publishing in one press is built for WordPress only. Every week it checks the search on Google, Bing and five AI assistants, so you see what the page changed.

Questions

Is Webflow better than WordPress for SEO?

Neither ranks better by itself. Webflow needs fewer plugins and serves clean HTML; WordPress has more SEO plugins and more freedom. What ranks is what the pages say and who links to them.

Does Webflow make a sitemap?

Yes. Turn on the automatic sitemap in Site settings under SEO, then submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Can AI assistants read a Webflow site?

Yes, as long as robots.txt lets their crawlers in, because Webflow serves the text in the HTML. The free AI SEO audit checks both.

Can Oftheard publish to Webflow?

Not in one press. Publishing is built for WordPress; on Webflow the approved page is copied in by hand. The audit and the weekly checks work the same on any site.

Oftheard runs a twelve-week SEO and AI visibility campaign for one business in India: the site fixed, the missing pages written from facts you confirm, and Google, Bing, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google’s AI Overviews and Google’s AI Mode checked every week.
