Is Wix good for SEO?

The old reputation came from years when Wix pages leaned on scripts. Today Wix serves pages with their text in the HTML, makes a sitemap by itself, and gives each page its own SEO settings. A Wix site can rank. Where it trails WordPress is flexibility: fewer ways to change how pages are built and marked up.

Does Wix do SEO for you? It does the technical setup. It does not choose your searches or write the pages, and that is most of SEO.

The Wix SEO checklist

  • The Wix SEO setup checklist: work through it in the dashboard. It connects Google Search Console and submits the sitemap.
  • Each page’s SEO basics: a title under about 60 characters and a description of 70 to 160, written for the search the page should win, and a short, readable address.
  • Robots: check the robots.txt in the SEO settings, and that no page you want found is set to be hidden from search.
  • Redirects: when a page’s address changes, add a 301 in the URL redirect manager.
  • Structured data: add the business’s details as markup in each page’s advanced SEO settings.
  • Alt text: describe what each image shows.
  • Headings: one H1, and the buyer’s question as a heading with the answer in the first sentence under it.
  • Bing too: submit the sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools; several AI assistants lean on Bing’s index.
